Handmade arts and crafts on display in Ellesborough

JEWELLERY maker Sally Evans has for several years now been organising twice yearly art and craft markets in locations in and around Aylesbury.

The high quality of the goods on offer ensures that these are always well attended, and fans of handmade goodies won't want to miss the next event, at Ellesborough Village Hall on Saturday.

One of the features of these events is that they help to raise money for a worthwhile cause, and on this occasion the 1 entrance fee will be donated to Carers Bucks.

They provide support for carers of all ages who look after someone with mental or physical health issues.

One of the exhibitors at the market will be wildlife photographer Adrian Faulkner. He lives in the UK, but spent his childhood in Africa and has returned on several occasions for voluntary conservation work and field guiding courses.

Consequently, he has images in his collection both of African wildlife and of familiar back garden creatures.

Another is Linda Anousta, a qualified nurse, aromatherapist, and beautician who has trained extensively in how to make natural skin, hand and mouth care products.

Oxfordshire-based Melanie Langton uses handmade silver, semiprecious stones and metal recycled from Ford cars to create fabulous jewellery, which she markets under the name Betty Jacket Jewellery.

Other jewellers present will be organiser Sally Evans who uses resin and crystal and Jane Hainsworth, who also makes handmade corsages.

One of the local artists whose work you can see is Rachel Forgham, who lives in Wendover. Her paintings are big and bold enough to brighten any wall. Painted in oil and finished off with a pallet knife to bring out texture and depth, her subjects include both animals and flowers.

There will be silk paper from Coral Slade, handmade books from Ros Long, Shaker boxes (ideal as tea caddies or trinket boxes) from Mick Randall, handknits from Chalkshire Alpaca and much, much more.

If edible goodies are your thing, there are Indian style chutneys and nuts from Rani Jadavji and preserves, meringues and fudge from Angela Grainge and Diana Russell.

The Art and Craft Market is open from 10am to 4pm, and refreshments will be available.
