Fish looking forward to Aylesbury festival
HOBBLE on the Cobbles, Aylesbury's popular free music festival, returns to the town on Sunday August 26 with original Marillion frontman Fish headlining the event.
Last summer local legend John Otway performed in Aylesbury Market Square for first time in 28 years and drew a crowd of around 4,000 people, and this year's concert promises to be equally unmissible.
2007 is set to be one of the busiest and most eventful years in Fish's long and colourful career.
He has been in the business for 26 years, 19 as a solo artist, and has gained a continuing reputation as a maverick and uncompromising artist.
Current projects include his new role as presenter/DJ on digital radio station Planet Rock where he hosts his own show, Fish on Friday, releasing a double live CD on his own record label, The Chocolate Frog Record Company, and the recording of a new studio album, 13th Star which is due out about now.
The Aylesbury gig comes in the middle of Fish's Clutching at Stars tour which started in Europe and continues in the UK in September.
Fish looks forward to returning to Aylesbury.
He said: "It'll be the first time I have played in Aylesbury for a very long time."
"I still have a lot of fond memories from those early days in the town before we signed to EMI in 82. I always wanted to play a show in the Market Square but Hobble on the Cobbles had shut down as an event a couple of years before I joined Marillion in 81.
"Our first single was titled Market Square Heroes and it would be an injustice if the song wasn't played on the day. I'm really looking forward to returning to what was the spiritual birthplace of my career as a singer."
In addition to Fish, Hobble on the Cobbles will also feature local bands Micawber, Domino Theory and Pause, singer-songwriters David James Herbert and Lisa Theunissen, some fantastic rock bands by way of The Last Grand, (who were the winners of the Aylesbury Showcase Mobile Text Competition last month) and Star Chamber, energetic folk-rockers Leatherat, 13 year old Aylesbury pop-sensation Claudia, and rising hip-hop artist Mister Who.
Rock/Indie bands Loz Jones, Lightbox, and amazing acoustic guitarist Michael Berk, who all appeared last year, are returning to Aylesbury Showcase's Hobble on the Cobbles, back by popular demand.
Popular local cover band Charlie Don't Surf will also be performing on a third stage, which will be situated in Kingsbury.
To help support all these artists and the local music scene, Aylesbury Showcase will be hosting a series of free live weekend gig-nights in the courtyard of The King's Head. The next Showcase Gig takes place on Saturday at 8pm, and features Tinyfish, Loz Jones and Micawber.
Once again, this summer really will be packed full of great musical talent, which is not only fantastic for the local music scene, it is also a great boost and benefit to the town as a whole.
