School placements should be first come, first serve

OUR reader Brian Tattam believes it is time for school placement selection policies to be on a first come, first serve basis.
It is high time that all school selections/placements were taken from the catchment area, with any spare places being available on a first come first served basis. This would then significantly reduce the vehicles required to take pupils to school as most could be walked there.

With reference to Anni's letter last week on public toilets. Why not use the AVDC office toilets at the bottom of the High Street? I always do. They are in the entrance foyer and you only have to walk in.

I have in the past seen two parents letting their children urinate in the town as young children do not understand 'you will have to wait as there are no toilets nearby'.

Lastly, has anyone seen the situation in Park Street.?The road was closed off for a number of weeks to re-build the weight limited bridges. The one over Bearbrook is apparently 'finished', but have you ever seen such a mess?

I believe that first year trainee bricklayers at the Aylesbury college could have laid better bricks than those in the walls. And why were the parapet walls of the canal bridge removed and barriers fitted to the roadway, which is now more dangerous than previously. Surely this is a further waste of taxpayers' money?

Perhaps the council needs to employ a Clerks of Works to ensure that work is completed properly and on time.
