THAT'S the opinion of today's correspondent.
Dear Editor

Surely - after the concrete carbuncle of the Bucks County Council offices - they cannot be serious about knocking down the beautiful Crown Court and replacing it with something which would make it look like something in "Prisoner from Cell Block H" - haven't the designers learned anything about style yet? Apparently not!

If the powers that be decide to go ahead with this new "carbuncle" then they could at the very least preserve the frontage of this historic building which is indeed paramount to keeping the character of the old market square - what's next - demolish the clock tower - raise the Lions to the ground - banish the statues because they do not fit in with the so-called "modernised look" of the new Aylesbury!!!

We spent a very happy 13 years of our lives living and serving the Aylesbury community as my husband and I were both playing members of the Aylesbury Community Concert Band, supplying the people of Aylesbury with high quality music including our own "Last Night of the Proms" (when the BBC refused to allow Aylesbury to "beam" the TV link in). The whole market square was crammed to capacity and everyone (including the band) had a wonderful evening. We cannot imagine that same feeling happening once the market square is "modernised" in this unacceptable manner!

Leave Aylesbury with some of it's market town character, please!

Three years ago we had to move from Aylesbury owing to the declining health of my elderly father. We still visit quite regularly to see friends and family and are horrified to see the plans for the Crown Court. Come on everyone have some pride and put a stop to this. There is room for the modernisation of Aylesbury - just leave the centre alone - it would indeed be a travesty to allow this to happen.

Yours sadly

Unfortunately this letter is wrong, missing the point completely.

The story on which it comments clearly states that the new building will be in Walton Street next to the Magistrates Court. I imagine this might just be the area that is currently boarded off on the Gyratory.

It would be a great shame to demolish such a wonderful looking building as the court in Market Square, but this story suggests nothing of the sort.

Could this maybe have been proof-read by the webhosts before publishing it?

SxSn is correct, the editor should have sent this letter back and corrected Mr & Mrs Pethers accordingly.

The new court will be at the top of the gyratory system, currently boarded up. AFAIK there are no plans to demolish the old court building - and without bringing down the buildings around it I can't see how it would ever be bulldozed.
