Is a different electoral system needed in Bucks?

IT IS REPORTED in the national press that the Government is giving serious consideration to the introduction of the "alternative vote".
This would allow voters to express a second preference.

In those instances where no candidate had obtained more than 50 per cent of the total vote, the second preference vote from the lowest scoring candidate's share would be redistributed until one candidate had more than 50 per cent of the vote.

I should be interested to learn the views of readers of the Bucks Herald on this issue and how they think it could affect the results of elections in Bucks - whether at parliamentary or local level.

I should emphasise that this is not proportional representation but it might be regarded as a step in that direction.

Chris Peeler

Do you think a different voting system should be used at a local and national level?
