THAT's the view of today's correspondent
Dear Editor

The decision by AVDC to put forward the Eastern Arc is just downright preposterous. Having lived in both areas (Stoke Grange) and now Bierton I am totally amazed and angered by AVDC bizarre decision and their backtrack on their original Southern Arc choice. I guess it just shows ...... its WHO you know not WHAT you know. All the reports state the Southern Arc is the best option (out of the two given) but councillors have caved in to WHO has the greatest number of voters.

Do you agree with Rachael Willmer?

Totally agree with you. The council need to come out and explain exactly why they have back tracked. Nobody wants these extra houses but all of Aylesbury will need to take some so in the future the next big development should be placed to the South!

Two fine examples of NIMBYism at it's best!

No Uncle Bryn what I am saying is that I can accept the new houses in the eastern arc but want the council to explain why they changed their minds when the southern arc had been given the go ahead and also now the eastern is going to be approved then the next development should be in the south. Isnt that fair or are you from the south and a true NIMBY?

It's all down to Immigration & Open borders, latest figures show that the UK population has risen by 1.8 million through immigration since 1997, when Labour took office.

In 2007, net immigration to the UK increased to 237,000, reports the Office for National Statistics. This is an increase of 46,000 on the previous year and reflects the fact that fewer people are leaving the country.

The ONS says applications for asylum registered their fifth consecutive increase between July and October 2008, rising by 12%.

The figures suggest that the UK population reached a little under 61 million last year.

UKIP policy calls for a five-year freeze on immigration, and strict controls thereafter.

Voters must remember that the Conservatives, Labour & Liberal Democrats all support the EU and cannot do a thing about Immigration because the UK is in the EU.

There will be more & more houses built on green belt land due to this problem. If you want less building of houses the UK must seal it's borders and introduce it's own work permits that allow people in. While we are in the EU we can do nothing about it.

I am sorry to see the above comment from Mr Adams of UKIP. This issue is about planning and not about immigration, trying to turn the argument round to another emotive issue does not help the situation. I think everyone in the UK is aware that having a higher population will require more housing - common sense. I'm sure we'd welcome Mr Adams' views on the planning issue so that we can judge more accurately whether to vote for him in future.

Quite right, despite UKIP's claim this has nothing to do with 'immigrants' and everything to do with councillors playing politics rather than making decisions based on facts.

Let's count how many Conservative councillors there are in Watermead, Bierton and the areas of Aylesbury most likely to be affected by the Eastern Arc plans - oh that's right - NONE. So they aren't going to lose any votes by voting for it and the outrage residents of these areas can't even send a message to them at the next local elections by voting them out.

The vast majority of Tories who all seem to represent leafy villages around Buckingham and aren't affected by these plans have basically decided that as punishment for voting Lib Dem, the residents of these areas should be the ones to have all the building on their doorstep, evidence be damned.

What can I say - no matter at what level, national or local, a politican is a politican.

Hear, Hear, Steve z, Couldn't agree more. As I see it, this situation has now become about politics rather than sensible planning issues. The party who must be wringing their hands in glee can only be the Labour party as they see their strategy of divide and conquer clearly playing out! They need only sit back and watch the Conservative Councillors self destruct by punishing the Lib Dems and initiate divisions between the communities of the Eastern Arc and Southern Arc of Aylesbury. The local press fuel this divide with their headline grabbing comments all a great shame for our town - where's the bigger picture in all this?

Would you prefer the Civic Centre in Aylesbury be demolished to make way for new shops and restaurants as part of the Waterside scheme, or be saved to provide facilities for community events?
