THAT's the view of today's correspondent Bob Hammond
Over the years decisions by the District Council have seriously undermined the viability of businesses in Aylesbury Town Centre.

Friars Square development effectively bankrupted many business in Kingsbury as no thought had been given to the effect on them. Indeed the District Council acted in a derisory manner. Now they are at it again. Because some overinflated? scheme for a theatre which in the opinion of some was unnecessary and now in the present economic circumstances seems on a par with the actions of mortgage banks.Goodness knows what the final sum will be.

I regularly shop in Aylesbury and it is obvious that for most retailers things are very quiet and with unemployment increasing Christmas will be hard for many shops.

The District Council should not just take away the number of free days shopping but increase them.

Not only Milton Keynes but Thame and Bicester Village I believe, have free parking.Certainly shoppers will go elsewhere or restrict the time they spend in Aylesbury.

Goodness knows how the shops will fare when yet another brilliant idea puts another large store at the bottom of the High Street.

The Editorial in the Bucks Herald was spot on - HUMBUG And as far as I am concerned if our MPs can put up with the cramped space in The House of Commons so can AVDC.staff and it also applies to the County Council many of whom don't like their accommodation in the Fine Tower building. Dont forget most taxpayers cannot rely on inflation proof pensions which the taxpayers fund.

Another nail in the coffin of the town. Dormitory status here we come.

No wonder AVDC wanted to join up with Milton Keynes when the choice of Unitary or Pathfinder was first announced - they've sent most of the towns business there already.

I regularly shop in Hemel. Parking is far cheaper, it's easy to access, you can get there in a matter of minutes, better choice of shops AND last weekend I filled up with diesel at 5p/litre cheaper than Aylesbury.
It would seem that all our glorious leaders want to do is turn this town into one huge housing estate. There is no pressure on garages to be competitive with their fuel prices, they try to encourage us to use buses by forcing our arms up our backs (high parking fees & few spaces) yet the bus service is as reliable as a 1970s skoda.
You can't cycle into town as the cycle lanes are full of parked cars.
And most of the high street is now full of charity shops.

All councilers and the council can talk a good job ,
But alas cannot do one.
I wonder if any of them make a mistake in working out there expence accounts ?
