Judging by previous reviews things must have changed at the Bell. I found the bar staff knowledgable and heplfull the waitress very attentive. Food from the specials board was excellent and reasonbly priced for the quality, the wine tasting option of Rothschild reds was again well presented although a little hammy in cardboard trays. I haven't seen this too often in the UK but it is a step in the right direction, a little more about the wines would be helpfull. Overall a very good experience, only down side was some noisy children but I suppose there isn't a McD in Aston Clinton......

Following on from previous reviews, the service was terrible! It wasn't busy, as we were eating about 4pm on a Friday. The waitress came over quite quickly to take our order, but wasn't so quick to clear away our plates, between courses. My empty glass was also on the table and she didn't ask if I wanted another drink and she didn't even remove the glass! I asked for a sweet menu which I got, but the waitress never came back to take our order, I had to go to the bar 30 minutes later to order the sweet! As for the food itself, that wasn't much better, and once home I realised we'd even been overcharged by £6.00!! Not a good experience and will certainly not return there to eat in future!

The Bell was recommended for an evening meal. It was the worst recommendation I have ever had.
We were greeted by a friendly waiter and shown to our table. It went down hill from there.
The table was in such a dark area that we needed to use a torch to see what we were eating. The first course was disappointing as the ham was overpowered by the mint dressing. The prawns were satisfactory but only 3 prawns were served in their shells. It looked a lot but when you actually got through the shell, not much fish.
The main course was very disappointing. I had ordered a porterhouse steak and it was so dark I couldn't see the bone or fat. It was served on a cold plate that meant that the vegetables were cold although the chips were very hot.
I will admit that the cheese and biscuits and raspberry sorbet were delicious. Tea and coffee were ok.
I won't be returning to the Bell. I felt that the food was over priced for the quality of food served. The ambience was too dark and needed a little more light. If they are trying to avoid customers actually seeing what they are eating then outcome achieved. Not for me!

Expensive, AWFUL service! We waited SO long between meals! We got there at 7.30pm and didnt leave till 10.30pm due to the food taking so long - and thats without a pudding! It wasn't even that busy, which is what made me more cross! Waitress's and waiters walking past our table which was full with empty glasses and plates, avoiding eye contact when we mentioned them to clear it! The food was very nice, I've been a few times and have never had a problem with the quality of food, its the service that lets this establishment down, big time, front of house team need to pay more attention to there guests, its my local place to eat and I barely ever go as I cant be bothered to wait around! Sort it out! Bring back the Duck!!!!

the worst service ever, shouldn’t customer service be their priority? Don’t think I would ever go back to that place, unless they change most of their waitresses.

We visited today for sunday lunch outside, as weather was great! I am vegetarian, but they don’t seem to cater for vegetarians! Had a roast without the meat – which was quite expensive. Ridiculously huge yorkshire pudding, and could have done with more variety of vegetables! Why do pubs not cater for vegetarians? The pub looked very nice inside, so we will return at some stage, just hope they will update their menu to accommodate vegetarians more. And we don’t ALL want huge meals either. Smaller meals would be welcomed! Staff were very obliging though – very pleasant!

Hugely disappointing. The decor and setting is gorgeous and we’d been looking forward to eating here but found the experience dreadful.

We were greeted on arrival but told to sit where liked, meaning no waiting staff took any notice of us. 15 minutes later, no drinks order or food order had been taken and we were ignored. That was the theme of the evening; we had to get up and go to the bar five times during the course of the meal. The food was at best mediocre; Mr Knight’s starter was awful. Dishes seemed to have been sitting under hot lamps for ages before coming out.

The staff do not know what they’re doing. Basic procedures are not in place and they can’t even operate the bar effectively. We weren’t charged for drinks but the bill was still expensive given the poor quality of the food. I will be writing to them to complain- a rarity for me!
