Prepare to go white if you see The Woman in Black

THE Woman In Black, one of the most terrifying plays ever written, comes to the Oxford Playhouse from Tuesday to Saturday September 23 to 27.
Eel Marsh House stands isolated on England's bleak East Coast. Here Mrs Alice Drablow lived - and died - alone.
Young Arthur Kipps, a junior solicitor, is ordered by his firm's senior partner to travel up from London to attend her funeral and then sort out all her papers.
He glimpses a young woman dressed all in black, at the back of the church during Mrs Drablow's funeral, and later, in the graveyard to one side of Eel Marsh House. Who is she?
The Woman In Black, originally a novel by Susan Hill, treads in the footsteps of the classic ghost story, following the tradition of Charles Dickens and M.R James, of Henry James and Edith Wharton. It relies on atmosphere, a vivid sense of place, on hints and glimpses and suggestions, to chill the reader's blood to the marrow.
Stephen Mallatratt's adaptation for the stage remains entirely true to the book itself and uses much of Susan Hill's own descriptive writing and dialogue, while transforming the novel into a totally gripping piece of theatre.
It was first performed at the theatre-by-the-sea in Scarborough back in 1987 and reached the West End in 1989, where it has been a major audience puller for the past 19 years.
Sean Baker plays the part of Arthur Kipps and Ben Porter is the Young Actor. Both Sean and Ben have been performing these roles in the West End.
Sean Baker's recent theatre work includes Mowbray/Salisbury in Richard II with Kevin Spacey at The Old Vic. On TV, he played David Blunkett in C4's The Blunkett Tapes. Ben Porter has recently appeared as Trevor in Bedroom Farce and as Louis in Losing Louis.
Unanimously acclaimed by the critics, The Woman In Black has been seen by over 3 million people, including many famous names such as the Princes William and Harry, Annie Lennox, Michael Parkinson, Ben Elton, Roger Bannister and the Sultan of Brunei (who qualified for the group discount with his full entourage).
Tickets are available from the Box Office on 01865 305305.
