ENNIO Marchetto is an act that needs to be seen to be believed, and you can catch him at the Oxford Playhouse on Tuesday October 21.
Ennio's one-man show sees him magically transform from one character to another using specially designed costumes made entirely from cut out cardboard and paper.
Set to a soundtrack of well-known tunes, Ennio becomes the Mona Lisa, Celine Dion, Eminem, Lily Allen, Pavarotti, Dolly Parton, and a host of other characters.
Born in Venice, Ennio worked in his father's espresso machine repair shop, making elaborate costumes for the annual carnival for fun.
One day in the early 80s, in a daydream, he had a vision of Marilyn Monroe dressed in paper, and that same day he made his first paper costume which he used to amuse friends and family at home and people in the street during the carnival.
Since then he has performed his unique act in over 70 different countries worldwide.
From comparatively humble beginnings as a street performer, via the Edinburgh Fringe, Ennio has gone on to perform at such prestigious events as the Royal Variety Performance, Elton John's White Tie and Tiara Ball, and London's South Bank Centre.
Working with costume designer Sosthen Hennekam, Ennio Marchetto's stage show has gone from strength to strength. The miraculous costume changes are rapid and energetic leaving the audience wondering where he is going to go next.
