A SPECTACULAR Battle Proms Concert will take place at Blenheim Palace in Oxford this Saturday (July 19).
The evening will commence with a celebratory salute from a vintage field gun and for the first time it will be followed by a magnificent Spitfire air display carefully choreographed to Gustav Holst's Jupiter.
There will be a new musical programme combined with 193 cannons, spitfire air displays, courageous horsemen and superb soloists. The New English Concert Orchestra will perform on the grounds whilst people enjoy their picnics.
As well as the exciting traditional proms finale with spectacular fireworks you can expect to hear musical classics such as Dvorak's Symphony No 9 From the New World, Strauss's An Artist's Life and Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture with live cannon fire.
Soprano soloist Denise Leigh will be joined by the acclaimed tenor Nicholas Ransley and they will perform uplifting arias and operatic duets including Verdi's Brindisi from La Traviata. Battle Proms has a tradition of supporting young musical talent and so they will welcome the cellist Matthias Broersma who will perform a stirring rendition of Elgar's Cello Concerto (1st movement).
The courageous cavalry of the Napoleonic Association will entertain crowds with horsemanship of the highest level during their skill at arms displays and elegant musical ride.
Centrepiece of the concert is the unique staging of Beethoven's Battle Symphony with the live cannons, musket-fire and fireworks.
