Jam, cakes and naked ladies- it's all coming off at Wycombe Swan

THE stage adaptation of Calendar Girls is playing at the Wycombe Swan until Saturday November 1.
The phenomenon of the Calendar Girls was inspired by the untimely death of the husband of a Women's Institute member in Yorkshire in 1998.
During his illness her friends planned to raise money, initially with
the aim of purchasing a sofa for the visitors' lounge in the hospital and, somewhere along the line, the ladies hit on the idea of posing for a calendar.
The subject matter was a classic WI calendar, with jams, cakes and sewing - except for one thing…the ladies were all nude!
The 2000 Alternative WI Calendar was a runaway success, resulting in
the ladies raising more than a million pounds for Leukaemia Research, the UK's leading blood cancer charity.
Calendar Girls became a hugely popular and award winning film in
2003 and now the story has been turned into a stage play with a star studded cast including Lynda Bellingham, Patricia Hodge, and Sian
Phillips.
The play opened in September at the Chichester Festival Theatre, when the first night audience, which included the original Calendar Girls,
gave it a rapturous reception and is now headed for the West End, but you can catch it in High Wycombe.
Some of the money raised from ticket sales will go towards the
Leukaemia Research charity.
