HORSE in Art 2008 is an equine-themed art exhibition at Obsidian Art Gallery in Stoke Mandeville featuring a stunning mix of paintings, print-making and sculpture by selected artists from all over the UK.
Now in its 7th year, this annual art exhibition always proves very popular with both artists and visitors.
Once again Obsidian is delighted to be supporting The Horse Trust, the charity which runs The Home of Rest for Horses, near Speen.
The exhibition includes over 200 stunning paintings, prints and sculptures in a wide variety of style and media, from traditional oils on canvas, to charcoals and inks.
The artists have been selected not only for their ability at capturing horses on paper, canvas or in clay, but also for their diversity of approach and methods. These range from the traditional to contemporary work with a more stylised approach, such as Dawn Benson's whimsical bronze sculptures, as pictured above and Lydia Kernan's drawings capturing the essence of the horse in just a few lines.
There is a wonderful sculpture of a life-size zebra foal made out of wire and recycled biscuit tins, and as well as many paintings depicting a wide range of equestrian sports.
Entry is free to the exhibition, but voluntary donations are welcome, and these and a percentage of proceeds will be donated to The Horse Trust.
The Horse in Art exhibition runs until 14 September from 10am to 5pm on weekdays and Saturdays and from 11am to 4pm on Sundays.
