IT'S not long ago that local professional artist Ali Cockrean was showing her work at a swish gallery on Cork Street in the heart of London's art district.
She turned a few heads there with her stunning, colourful abstract work. For all the attractions of the international market, this month Ali is returning to Bucks to show her latest work and bringing along some of her own favourite artists in a unique show titled Take Four.

Ali said: "It's usually just my own paintings on the walls when I exhibit locally, but this time I wanted to create a show which would have a much wider appeal and decided to include work by people I really admire myself. So I've invited some friends along to join me."

The exhibition at Obsidian Art, Stoke Mandeville, includes another local artist Michele Smith. Michele, from Whitchurch, uses special glass to produce some unique, beautiful work. The other artists, Ben Winter and Ollie Lett are both well known nationally. Ollie has also recently begun work on some illustrations for a major children's book, Where's my Chihuahua?

To mark the launch of the exhibition the artists will be holding a series of special workshops on Saturday, April 26 for children and adults (1-4.30pm, workshops last half an hour).

"Because Michele and myself are both experienced teachers and enjoy working with people who want to develop their art skills we decided to make the most of the gallery space by getting people involved in a bit of creativity and having some fun. There'll be separate children's and adult workshops. I think all of us agree that painting and drawing is nothing if it's not fun."

Bucks Herald readers can join in for free, saving themselves the £5 charge. To book call the gallery on 01296 612150 and tell them you're a Bucks Herald reader.

The exhibition opens on Thursday, April 24 and runs until Monday, May 5.
