Ed's directing debut for Haddenham Players in Terence Rattigan farce
HADDENHAM Players' forthcoming production is an entertaining comedy, 'Harlequinade' by Terence Rattigan.
This amusing play shows a little known side of Rattigan, who usually wrote of the more painful aspects of life.
Harlequinade follows the trials and tribulations of a touring theatre company led by Arthur Gosport and Edna Selby, two actors well past their 'sell by' dates but still playing Romeo and Juliet! Things are not going well and can only get worse when Arthur's past comes back to haunt him.
Ed Cairns, who joined Haddenham Players two years ago, has been on stage most recently as Master of Ceremonies in the 'Old Time Music Hall' but has also taken leading roles in 'Hobson's Choice' and 'When We are Married'. He is also well known as a member of Thame Players and for his role as Jesus in the Long Crendon Mystery Plays. This production is his first as a director and he is enjoying the challenge of being on the other side of the footlights.
Harlequinade is to be presented at the Haddenham Community Junior School on Friday and Saturday, May 16 and 17 at 7.30pm. Tickets £5 from Blooming Fruity, Banks Parade, Haddenham or from 01844 291275.
