FOR a third year the King's Head in the centre of Aylesbury is delighted to announce the return of its fortnight long festival.
The King's Head, in the ownership of the National Trust, lies in the heart of the historic market town of Aylesbury and dates from the 15th century.
Part of the building is an award-winning bar, run by the Chiltern Brewery. Around the central cobbled courtyard there is a Tourist Information Centre, a thriving second-hand bookshop in the Great Hall, the King's Head Story and small retail outlets.
Beginning on Saturday, July 4, to coincide with Roald Dahl Day, the King's Head Festival will continue with a variety of events over the following two weeks celebrating the past, present and future of the historic coaching inn.
The Dahl celebrations will run from 11am to 3pm and include children's activities, storytelling, and Roald Dahl refreshments. Entry is free with a small charge for some activities.
Don't miss the Art and Craft Day, starting at 11am on July 11, at which the King's Head invites you to celebrate local and traditional arts and crafts with stalls, demonstrations and plenty more!
On July 18 from 10.30am a Food Fair will be held in the cobbled courtyard. Offering fresh and local produce -
there will be something for everyone's appetite.
A special talk will be given on July 13, abut the history of the Kings Head. Originally named Le Kynegeshede, the coaching inn has been a part of Buckinghamshire life since the mid fifteenth century. The talk will be based on records of the area from 1455-1664 and is bound to be a fascinating insight into Aylesbury's oldest secular building.
For those that are after a musical evening with a difference, the Kings Head Festival has two fantastic performances lined up. On the July 9, the tale of JR Tolkien's Sir Orfeo will come alive in the historic coaching inn. The tale of love, music and magic will be retold with the kind permission of Harper Collins on behalf of the Tolkien estate.
The following week, on July 16, enjoy a Summer evening of Renaissance and Baroque music, with Aurora, a group performing music from an era that saw musical innovations all over the world.
Booking is essential for both these performances and ticket numbers are limited so early booking is advised. To book or for further information, please contact 01296 381501.
