THE traditional Wendover Choral Society sings mostly classical music but open this niche to all ages and abilities.
Rehearsals will be held at the John Hampden Primary School, Wharf Road in Wendover from Thursday September 4 between 7.45pm - 9.45pm.
Formed over 40 years ago, it is an amateur choir which is rehearsed on Thursday evenings during school term-time and puts on two concerts each year. One is held in December and the other around late May early June.
They also hold a number of social events during the year which are open to choir members and the local community and are primarily held to raise funds for the society.
The choir is directed by Peter Bassano an experienced musician, formerly a professor at the Royal College of Music.
This term they will be working towards their Christmas concert which will be on Saturday November 29 at St Mary's Church, Wendover.
They will be rehearsing Charpentier's Messe de Minuit pour Noel (Midnight mass for Christmas) and Bach's Magnificat.
For two rehearsals early in the term guest Diana Sharp, a professional singer, will teach the choir about some simple singing techniques in order to help with learning the music and performance.
Listed in their social diary they have their ever-popular Quiz Night on Saturday October 18 with a fish and chip supper and a Ceilidh on Saturday March 14.
Their summer concert has been booked provisionally for June 6 at St George's Church in RAF Halton. The programme for this concert and the date will be confirmed in the next few weeks.
For new members no previous experience is necessary and there is no audition for joining. Anyone interested in being a member can just turn up on September 4 or at subsequent rehearsals or they can contact a member of the choir for more info via www.wendoverchoralsociety.co.uk or call 01494 837423 or 01296 622847.
