A £10,000 reward has been put up for any information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the murderers of an Aylesbury man who died after being hit on the head with a spade.
Detectives investigating the murder of Mustapha Charkaui, who was attacked in his home in Dunsham Lane on March 21, were due to make a national appeal on the BBC Crimewatch TV programme last night (Tuesday).

Items of clothing including a blue and cream stripy sweater and a Nike trainer, believed to be similar to that worn by the two burglars, were to be shown during the programme.

New details about Mr Charkaui's last hours emerged as footage was available of him withdrawing several thousands of pounds from the Woolwich Building Society in Aylesbury on the day of the attack.

Mr Charkaui also went into Cafe Malebon in Aylesbury town centre the same afternoon and police are appealing for anyone who saw him or spoke to him in either location to contact them.

Tarik Charkaui also visited his father just two hours before the attack to give him several thousands of pounds to pay builders that were working on his house in Morocco.

Mr Charkaui was due to catch a flight to Morocco hours after he was attacked and was upstairs packing his suitcase when the burglars smashed through the patio doors.

Earlier in the evening, a taxi driver knocked at the door but Mr Charkaui ignored it and told his wife he had not booked a taxi.

It is believed that the taxi may have been ordered by the two attackers who were checking if the Aylesbury couple were still in the house. The reconstruction was due to show the terrifying last seconds of Mr Charkaui's life after his wife was chased up the stairs into the bedroom that he was standing in.

The two men shouted 'where is the money, where is the money' and struck Krystyna Charkaui across the face with a spade and then her husband was hit on the head, while the mirror in the bedroom was also shattered during the attack.

DCI Karen Trego said that the two men made 'a lot of noise' as they made their escape into the Elmhurst Road area and has appealed to anyone who may have seen either of the men.

A hospital scan in the days after the attack on Mr Charkaui revealed that he was brain dead and his wife and son were faced with the heart-breaking choice of whether to turn off the life support machine.

Anyone who was in Dunsham Lane or Elmhurst Road between 9.30pm and 11pm on Monday, March 21, or who knows who may have committed the crime is asked to contact DCI Trego on 0845 8 505 505 or, if you don't want to talk to police call the Crimestoppers charity on 0800 555 111.
