PCC candidate profile: John Howson, Liberal Democrat
John Howson
John Howson has been a magistrate for 22 years and is a former government advisor, businessman and academic.
He said improving detection rates and supporting victims of crime are major issues.
Mr Howson said: “It takes too long for much of our crime to get to court and that is unfair to victims.”
The other key tasks he has set for himself are to reduce crime and the fear of crime, improve police accountability and visibility and work to raise public confidence in the police.
He also said closing police stations is a possibility as people communicate with the police in different ways more and more, such as through the internet and via telephone.
