The Bucks Herald - first published in 1832

THIS week the Bucks Herald proudly celebrates its 175th anniversary. For 175 years we have covered the news and events of Aylesbury and the Vale and we have witnessed – and chronicled – the birth of the modern world.

When The Bucks Herald was born In 1832, Aylesbury was suffering a cholera epidemic.

Travellers would give the town a wide berth and street bandits would murder people in the streets. One hundred and seventy-five years on and we have witnessed the modernisation and growth of Aylesbury, we have survived two world wars, we have experienced the international media frenzy, firstly after the Great Train Robbery and more recently when Aylesbury resident Germaine Lindsay became the deadliest terrorist in British history.

We have campaigned on behalf of our local community, we have held politicians and organisations to account and we have given a voice to everyman, woman and child in the area – be it through letters, advertisements or personal announcements.

We have created a rich sense of community in Aylesbury Vale – a duty we will continue to endeavour to uphold as we travel further into the 21st century.
