More people are getting on their bikes

SUSTAINED investment in a number of projects has led to more Aylesbury people jumping in the saddle according to a new report.
One scheme highlighted as a success in the Department for Transport report was the Sustrans’ BikeIt programme which works with primary school children giving them the skills and information needed to cycle to school on a regular basis.
Simon Pratt from Sustrans said: “In Aylesbury we’ve seen new routes, information and cycle training all play a part in allowing more people to get around on two wheels. Getting more people to cycle in Aylesbury will help reduce pollution and congestion, as well as helping local people get fitter and healthier, in particular active travel can help mental wellbeing.
“We hope the success will inspire the local council to go the extra mile in promoting active travel schemes in future.”
The report was part of Aylesbury’s Cycling Demonstration Town project.
