A FEARFUL family are finding it hard to sleep after burglars stole more than £2,000 worth of tools from their home.

Jane Taylor and her partner Roy Seabrook’s home in Wendover was broken into in the early hours of Sunday morning.

The thieves forced their way into an outbuilding at the property and an office, from which thousands of pounds’ worth of gardening tools were stolen.

The burglars also stole the couple’s van keys, and took a large amount of equipment from their vehicle.

“It’s really taken us aback,” said Jane.

“It’s really a horrible thing to happen to you wherever you live, but you don’t generally expect it to happen in a village.

“We’ve got two 6ft fences and an 8ft fence around the property, and yet they still managed to get in.

“Among other things, some of the items which they took included a hedge strimmer, a chainsaw, a boxed-up tool set and various gardening tools.”

The incident took place at around 2.30am at the Tring Road property, when the burglars broke into the outbuildings, before the couple witnessed a man breaking into their van.

“We first heard our dog barking, and he just wouldn’t stop,” added Jane.

“We thought it was just the wind outside making noises so I came half way down the stairs and then returned upstairs to bed.

“About 20 minutes later, having had our window open, we heard a clicking noise.

“I soon realised was the sound of the van door being opened with the key fob – by now this was around 3am.

“I quickly hopped out of bed, only to find a man breaking into the back of my husband’s van.

“We shouted at the man and he ran off.

“However, when we went downstairs we also realised that we’d been burgled.

“My 17-year-old daughter was due to go to college today but hasn’t as she barely slept, as she needed to keep the light and the TV on all night.

“None of us have slept – it’s left us all on edge.

“You really feel like someone’s invaded your personal space.

“Please, if anyone finds any of the items and thinks they could be linked, or if there were any witnesses or information, contact the police.”

Officers at Thames Valley Police are also appealing for witnesses or for anyone with any information to come forward.

A police spokesman said: “We have been making door-to-door inquiries in the area.

“We have also spoken to a number of potential witnesses.

“The man is described as being white, aged around 25, of a slim build and measuring around 5ft 10ins in height.

“He is believed to have run off in the direction of Colet Road following the incident.”

If you have any information call police on the non-emergency number 101.

Alternatively, witnesses can call the Crimestoppers charity anonymously on 0800 555111.

Maybe the van keys were taken from the office that was also broken in to at the time of the burglary.

I wonder if this house burglary was connected to a break-in at a car repair workshop at Halton over the same weekend? The workshop was broken in to on Sunday night\early hours of Monday morning, they cut through a metal padlock on the yard gates and then forced their way through the workshop doors and in to the building, several tool chest full of tools were taken, also many handheld electric and mechanical tools and other vehicle repair tools and equipment were stolen. Two vehicles were also stolen at the time (prob to transport the stolen property), a white transit van and a Ford Focus car. From CCTV pictures they went in on foot and were seen leaving the yard in the 2 stolen vehicles. Just thought I would mention it here, as our dear old pc plod have difficulty in joining the dots themselves sometimes!
