Aylesbury murder trial latest: ‘Family row night before killing’

A TAXI driver accused of killing his wife at their Aylesbury home rowed with members of her family the night before her murder, jurors have heard.

On Friday, Shabir Jalal, brother of murder victim Zarina Bibi, said Mohammed Tariq Aziz was ‘shouting and screaming’ after an argument broke out at a family gathering.

He said Mrs Bibi had tried to calm her husband down after a row between children escalated.

Mrs Bibi, 40, was found dead in her Glaven Road home on March 16 last year.

Mr Aziz, 45, denies murder.

Mr Jalal, who wept as he recalled the last time he saw his sister, said: “There was an argument between Mr Aziz. He was shouting and screaming at my brother’s sister.”

Asked if Mrs Bibi became involved, Mr Jalal said: “She did get involved, but she was trying to calm him down.

“She kept telling him to be quiet and not to make a scene at my brother’s house.

“He was shouting and screaming, but eventually he did calm down a bit.”

The witness said his sister had seemed unusually quiet the night before her death, when she attended a child’s birthday party at brother Zahir’s home.

Mr Jalal said: “She wasn’t her usual self. Normally when you see her, she’d always be smiling and making jokes, but she wasn’t her usual self that night.”

He said he had asked what was wrong, but she had said she was ok.

Mr Jalal’s wife, Teresa, said she believed Mrs Bibi had been worried about her family’s financial plight.

Mrs Jalal said: “A couple of weeks before, I got the gist that they were in financial trouble.

“She was asking me how to get bank loans and credit cards.”

Asked how the relationship was between Mr Aziz and Mrs Bibi, she said: “It was ok, they did argue, but nothing unusual.”

In a statement to police, Mrs Jalal had said: “I don’t think Mina (Mrs Bibi) was scared of Tariq or anyone.

“She was a confident, assertive lady.”

The trial, at Reading Crown Court, continues.
