THE managing director of Dayla, Tim Cooper, believes he would have deeply regretted not taking up his father's offer to join the family business way back in 1981.
"Family businesses are great although you don't half work hard," he said.

"But I couldn't imagine myself doing anything else."

Mr Cooper is the son of former boss and now company chairman, Dick, who was the son-in-law of Joseph Holland, who acquired the business, then known as North and Randall, in 1919.

The 51-year-old, who lives in Wendover, said joining his dad's drinks company was certainly not the easy option- infact he felt he had to work twice as hard in order to gain the acceptance of his fellow staff.

He says he immediately got stuck into all aspects of the company.

"I have driven the lorries and done virtually everything in the business.

"I approached it very much as I almost had to work twice as hard as everyone else in order to gain respect. It does not just fall into your lap."

The next chapter for Dayla is a move out of their High Street premises which they have occupied since 1851, to a bigger site somewhere in the Vale.

"There's no emotion from the family about moving," said Mr Cooper, adding that he was keen to move somewhere near the town.

"We want to be close to Aylesbury because we have got a lot of loyal staff who are prepared to put in the hours. I think that's vital in a family business."
