Mendoza Cafe Bar was opened at the beginning of May by a couple who previously owned Jimmy Figgs in Thame for more than eight years.

Michele and Ebbi Rostami have run businesses in the leisure industry for some time and last year they moved into Aylesbury from Thame taking over the lease of Deep Pan Pizza on the High Street. It is now a "cafe by day and bar by night".

Mrs Rostami said: "It was always our intention to refurbish it. When we saw it as Deep Pan Pizza we just saw its potential. It's more laid back than other places. Everything is quite mellow here - a cafe by day and bar by night.

"During the week, on Wednesday we have a pianist here, on Friday and Saturday we have got candlelight music with duos and trios until 8.30pm. Then a DJ will come on after that playing mainstream music. We have a dance floor as well.

"We serve food from nine in the morning for breakfast through to 10 at night."

She said their menu is quite informal serving paninis, sandwiches and salads during the day; at night the focus will be on drinks sales but there will be platters available.

Opening hours are 9am to 2am Thursday to Saturday and 9am until late on Monday to Wednesday. A strict dress code applies after 9pm in the evenings: no sportswear, no trainers.
