A ONE-WAY system in Princes Risborough would be a boost to retailers and help prevent the slow death of the High Street, it has been claimed.
Mayor of Risborough Alan Turner claims the town council's proposals for a one-way system in Duke Street and the High Street, probably flowing from Tesco to Marks and Spencer, could potentially create more free car parking spaces and make the town an easier and more enjoyable place to shop- as well as being supported by a majority of residents in the town.

Calls for a one-way system come after years of traffic misery in the town, including buses not being able to pass each other in the High Street and causing major snarl-ups.

However, Bucks County Council's Highways Authority remain unconvinced that a one-way system, which they say would cost around £50,000, is worth the money.

There is some good news however for Risborough's retailers.

From September free car parking in the High Street will be enforced much more strictly by traffic wardens, meaning drivers will no longer be able to go over the time limit, freeing up spaces for more shoppers.
