MAPLIN'S store in Aylesbury is hosting an in-store advice day today (Friday) to provide local shoppers with eco travel tips and information.
The electronics retailer is holding the special event at its Junction Retail Park store to encourage holiday makers to think about the planet when getting away from it all.
With 33.6 million British tourists set to travel this year, research conducted by Maplin, reveals that nearly half will choose to forget about saving energy, when on holiday this summer.
Of those who fail to go green on their travels, 29 per cent do not worry about the cost or environmental implications of saving energy, because they feel it's covered by the overall cost of their package deal, travel or accommodation.
A further 30 per cent only think about protecting the environment when at home, whilst 12 per cent claimed they find it difficult to save energy when travelling.
With 78 per cent of holiday makers believing there is not enough advice or information available to those who want to go green when travelling, National Solar Week aims to address this issue.
The solar advice day begins at 9.00am, with expert staff on hand to answer questions, provide simple, practical advice on the advantages of solar energy and demonstrate the latest in eco-friendly technology.
David O'Reilly, marketing director at Maplin, said: "With holiday makers packing more and more gadgets into their suitcase, National Solar Week is designed to encourage people to adopt a few simple eco-lifestyle changes when on holiday, so that collectively we can all make a difference to the future of the planet.
"We hope our in-store advice day will provide the perfect platform to give local shoppers the information, tips and guidance on the latest solar technology and prove that going green when travelling, needn't be a chore."
