A PACKAGE of measures to help small businesses in Bucks cope with the credit crunch has been announced by Bucks County Council.
The measures, launched by leader David Shakespeare, include a council commitment to pay invoices to these firms within 10 days rather than the current practice of 30 days.
In addition, the council, with partners, is establishing a 'one stop shop' for advice and support for existing and new businesses in the county.
The services offered will include providing premises where new businesses can be established, advising on robust business planning and putting businesses in touch with sources of funding.
David Shakespeare said the council was delighted to be able to help businesses in the county.
He added: "We welcome the fact that the Government is doing its bit but this council intends to go the extra mile to ensure that our local businesses stand a fighting chance in these challenging times.
"People's livelihoods are at stake here and this council will do whatever it can to help.
"This is not about offering funding, which would clearly be an inappropriate use of council taxpayers' money.
"It is about bringing together local knowledge and expertise, backed by existing council resources, and offering a simple one stop shop to help keep small businesses afloat."
The council's partners include the Bucks Economic and Learning Partnership, the Federation of Small Businesses, the Learning and Skills Council and Ngage, which offers business advice and support.
The one stop shop can be contacted at the Bucks Economic and Learning Partnership on 01296 383805.
The measures are available to businesses which employ 49 people or less.
