ORGANISERS of this year's Bucks County Show felt they had 'triumphed over adversity' after thousands of people turned out despite the lack of livestock.
For only the second time in the show's recent history, all sheep and cattle were banned due to the nationwide ban on livestock transportation after the recent foot and mouth outbreak.
Alison Bayliss, show secretary said: "It takes all year to plan the show and then builds up nearer to the date.
"With the Foot and Mouth crisis it has been difficult. We have had to rearrange the marquees but it does not affect the horses. We are hoping to triumph over adversity."
To cover the loss of the sheep and cattle, horses were given more prominence on both the outside and main ring.
The popular 'dancing sheep' show remained a family favourite after organisers obtained a special DEFRA licence to perform at the show.
The show had its usual array of different stalls including, different trades, charities and commercial organisations.
Chris Williams, chief executive of Bucks County Council, said: "I think the show is terrific."
One of the most noticeable stalls was a new 'super dome 'displaying all the Bucks County Council services.
Richard Knowles, from Buckingham Colour, said: "I think it is a really clever and innovative stand by Bucks County Council."
On the Model T Ford stand, one innovative gentleman decided to cook his breakfast on the engine of the vintage car.
Bailey Kettig, owner of the Model T built in 1926, said: "I cook in miles not minutes. It takes 20 miles to cook baked beans and 40 miles to cook roast pork."
In the trade stanD awards, Mursley based company RGC, an agricultural and horticultural engineering company were awarded first prize for best agricultural trade stand.
In the category for best non-agricultural stand, Whitchurch-based company Abbey Tree Nurseries were awarded first prize.
