Bob Busby in the US asks: My pen pal was Dorinda Allen who had written to Dear Auntie Pat for a Pen Pal in 1962. I would like to make contact again. I had a pen pal from England when I was in 5th grade. My pen pal and her school class wrote to a school newspaper or newsletter in England called the Children's Realm, which had a section called Auntie Pat that apparently requested kids to write for pen pals in the United States . These letters somehow made their way to Texas to a pen pal list that my 5th grade teacher read. My name is Ian Beard & I was the drummer in a group called The A-Rabs in the early 1960's. Like many other budding musicians, we used to play in and around Aylesbury & Tring and like all the rest dreamed of stardom......which never arrived! I lived at the Saracens Head pub on Rickfords Hill, Aylesbury and attended Quarendon Secondary School until The Royal Navy realised that it couldn't operate without me, and I left the area.

I would very much like to make contact with any of the other group members and/or anyone who remembers us, but m y memories of those days are vague (It's my age you know!!) The only names I can remember is Tony Butler-Lee who played bass, another member was Steve.....(can't remember his second name) and another still was Alan.....(Same problem with his surname I'm afraid!).

Although one of the two could have been Lawrence or Laurence. I do have a photograph of the whole group which appeared in the local press and which is rather dog-eared now, but still a favourite keepsake. The 11th of july 2006 I met a couple(round 50 years old) in a motorhome at a halting-place in the north of Sweden. I understood they were living in Aylesbury.
We discussed places worth to visit. I suggested among other a visit to
"Storforsen" wich is the largest waterfall in Europe. 
I would like to get in contact with this couple by email. I don´t know their names
They had started their journey in the beginning of may 2006 by going to France where they left their 14 years old dog. After that they drive to Belgium, Denmark, Sweden, from the south to the north of Norway, north of Finland and Sweden. The 11th of july they had desired to go to Sorsele. Up to then they had driven 8000 km totally.

In 1951 to 53 I was in Malta (Navy) and became very friendly with Shiela Rodgers (or Rogers). Her husband Peter was serving on HM Submarine Trenchant attached to HMS Forth. They had a 2 year old daughter Linda. We spent a lot of time togelther. We flew back to the U.K. together as the ships were returning for the Spithead Review for the coronation. I lost my purse during my journey to Durham and with it Shiela's address. Very soon after this I ;emigrated to Canada. I had a pen pal from England when I was in 5th grade.
